Coffee Table Book

I’ve never totally understood the concept of “coffee table books.” I generally like to actually, you know, READ my books, not just browse through them…that’s what magazines are for. But I would DEFINITELY buy a coffee table that was shaped like a giant book!! How cool would it be if you could get your favorite book or series as a coffee table? I’ve always wanted one of those little three-drawer organizers that look like a stack of leather-bound books. This could be like that–say, maybe a stack of three books, slightly askew–and maybe they could be hidden drawers or something too! If only I had enough talent to actually build one and sell it.

Of course, it wouldn’t be an actual book, like how Lauren Conrad murdered the Lemony Snicket series, A Series of Unfortunate Events, to make a useless “storage box”:

I just died a little inside, but it was like watching a trainwreck; I couldn’t look away.

  1. Haha! I do like coffee table books, actually. They’re great conversation starters. And good reads, too. Check out “Life and Soul” by Karina Turok, it’s a wonderful photogarphy/short biography book about some wonderful women in South Africa. I also have a book called “A Century of Sundays”, which chronicles the lifespan of my country’s oldest Sunday Newspaper. And I consider PostSecret to be a sort of coffee table book too.
i must say, that coffee table would be rather awesome 🙂

    • Ooh, I didn’t think about Postsecret. If I ever end up owning any of those books (I should really get around to that, actually) they will definitely have a place of honor on my coffee table. Once we stop using it as a dinner table, that is 🙂

  2. Oh no! I just watched the video! Why?! Why did I watch and why was she doing that?! It’s the way she suggests it might be a good way to display vintage books! What?! By destroying the book?! Excuse me while I go and cry.
