Everyone Should Believe In Something

A month ago, this was me, and yet here I am—barely able to finish a chapter before falling asleep. Maybe I’m just not reading the right book, maybe I just haven’t gotten used to my work schedule yet, but it still bums me out to be in a reading slump.

Do you have any go-to reads to get out of a slump?

  1. I agree with your assessment that you might not be reading the right book. I find that when I’m not eager to read, I need a change. I’d make a trip to the bookstore or library and look for something new!

    • I think I’ve also been avoiding reading because when I’m on the computer, I can multitask…but when I’m reading, I can’t. It’s just about the only thing that I have to sit down and DO, and just do that. And sometimes it’s stressful to think about doing ONLY ONE THING at once!!

  2. Do you have any authors you can depend on – for either comfort reads or just dependable storytellers? I haven’t always figured out the way to break a slump but I know that strategy often works for other readers, and it’s worked for me in the past.

    • Good point! Stephen King usually works for me, though I don’t have anything of his that I’m *dying* to read at the moment—they’d all be rereads. Not that that’s bad, just nothing tickling my fancy right now. I’m sure it also has a lot to do with being super busy, and I was able to pick up a book last night for the first time in almost two weeks, so that definitely helped. 🙂

  3. I usually hit up something chick lit-y because it’s light and airy or a murder mystery because I don’t read them all the time. Both genres are fast reads which I think helps get your groove back.

    • Yeah, a fast read definitely helps! I think it ended up being a time thing because the other night when I had nothing to do in an empty house with no internet or TV, I finished that book in only a few hours. It ended up being really good—I guess I was just so tired from my new schedule that reading wasn’t really a priority!
